Positive Reinforcement Training

Positive Reinforcement Training is a science-based proven method to train animals, in this case pet dogs, using methods that are force-free, fear-free and pain-free. It is the most humane method, that happens to also be the most effective.

Positive Reinforcement Training requires no tools, gimmicks or special equipment. When done well by a skilled positive reinforcement trainer, dogs learn the actual cues they are being taught and it requires less and less reinforcement over time. Repetition becomes the reinforcer. It uses rewards such as praise, toys and/or food treats as reinforcers for the behavior one wants. Timing is everything as is patience and a calm demeanor.

Positive Reinforcement is the most effective way to build trust with your dog for a long, lasting deep connection.

Basic Training

The Four Basic Cues:

* Sit

* Down

* Stay

* Come

The “Basics” form the foundation of all pet dog training. They are the building block cues that encourage manners, polite greetings and ensure a safe environment for your dog. Additional training builds from here. A solid foundation in these cues not only provides for a well mannered dog, creates a safe environment for them but most importantly…mastering these skills builds a trusting bond with your dog you will feel and enjoy their entire lives.

Loose Leash Walking

Loose leash walking training teaches dogs to walk politely on a slack leash. This is accomplished without causing the dog pain, discomfort or using any special tools or equipment. Just a static leash (non-retractible), harness or flat cloth collar is used (a cloth martingale collar can be used to prevent dogs slipping out of traditional collars).

The goal of this training method is to teach the dog that when they cause pressure on their harness or flat collar the walk stops and when the dog removes the pressure the walk continues so both the dog and their guardian can enjoy a walk together without frustration, pain or force. When done properly and consistently, guardians should start to notice less pulling, tugging and/or lunging in one to two weeks in most cases.

Barking Training

Identify the root cause of barking and apply proven, humane strategies to manage and redirect behavior.

Canine Good Citizen Training

Structured training approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC) to teach good manners to dogs while they are out in public Training is conducted in a fun and easy way. A ribbon and certificate are earned at the successful completion of a 10 step test.
